NFL Preseason Week 1: Texans at Cardinals Odds - 8:05pm EST
Saturday night NFL preseason odds for week 1 includes what would normally be considered a shootout in regular season betting lines as the Arizona Cardinals host the Houston Texans from the University of Phoenix Stadium. Online sportsbooks have listed Houston as a 2-point road favorite on the road vs Arizona with an over/under betting total of 33 and kick-off set for 8:05pm EST. Both teams have high hopes heading into week 1 NFL preseason betting lines as they enter the 2010 campaign. Houston is coming off their first ever winning season and is talking playoffs. The Texans have yet to make the post season in their history. The Cardinals are coming off back-to-back playoff seasons but have lost quarterback Kurt Warner to retirement.
Matt Leinart, their top draft pick in 2006, gets a second lease on life as starting QB. The Cardinals have plenty of weapons to support Leinart with including a deep pool of running backs. Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells lead the corps, with Hightower an excellent pass catcher out of the backfield as well as a punishing runner. Leinart is taking NFL preseason odds for week 1seriously as his team is underdogs at home and wants to get off on the best possible foot after bombing out as the Cardinals starting quarterback earlier in his career. "It's huge," said Leinart this week about tonight's preseason game. "I'm definitely not taking this preseason lightly. I don't think you ever do, but there's always that mindset that ‘I'm only going to play a series.' I'm going in knowing I'm not going to play a whole lot, but I want to take advantage of those opportunities."
New arrival Derek Anderson will backup Leinart, who is a former Heisman Trophy winner. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is looking for a take charge style from Leinart. "I would like to see assertiveness," said Whisenhunt. "I would like to see how he handles the huddle and the team." Arizona has gone 3-9 against the spread in preseason actions since 2007 including zero payouts last year. Houston has gone 6-5-1 against the spread in exhibition action since 2007.
